Pros and Cons of Moving to Irvine, CA

Irvine-ca Written by Marquette Carney

Welcome to Irvine California.

Known for its safety and extreme focus on education, Irvine is one of the best places in California to raise a family.

If you go on a casual stroll through a few of its neighborhoods, you’ll be greeted by a vast amount of smiles that will give you a Stepford wives feel.

But this charming city is not for everyone. So before you move, I highly recommend learning a bit about the pros and cons of living there.

So, if you’re ready to see what it’s really like to live in Irvine, let’s get started!

Con #3, Lack of variety

One of the first things you’ll notice about this city is that everything is kind of the same.

For starters, while the weather here is pleasant, after a while you’ll start feeling like you’re in the movie “Groundhog day”.

Anyone who’s a fan of having all four seasons will absolutely despise Irvine. Because it’s pretty much a guarantee that you’ll never get to wear those expensive boots or winter coats that you spent a fortune on.

But the weather is only one manifestation of Irvine’s lack of variety.

Because the city has also been plagued by a copy-and-paste type of architecture.

Just about every home in this city looks the same. And these tract homes can quickly give you the vibe that you’re existing in purgatory.

So if you’re someone who needs variety in your life to be happy, steer clear of this place.

Con #2, No nightlife

This one is actually a pro for me because I loathe being around drunk loud people.

But if you’re someone who loves nightlife or has a deep love for cocaine, then Irvine is not the place for you.

Because the nightlife here is totally nonexistent.

This is actually one of the things that make Irvine so family-friendly. Because an active nightlife has been known to attract some riff-raff.

But still, even people with families deserve to have a little fun every once in a while.

There are a few pubs in the area to kind of scratch your itch. But if you’re looking for a wild night, it’s best to look elsewhere.

Con #1, Cost of living

Would you even be slightly surprised if I said that Irvine is expensive?

I mean, it is in California after all. Last I checked they charged a fee for breathing in that state.

The cost of living in this city is 80% higher than the national average. Which basically means you’ll need a surgeon’s salary in order to live comfortably here.

And with inflation on the rise, the cost of living in Irvine is only going to get worse. Just trust me on this, lock a good job down in this city before moving, or prepare to become a panhandler.

Allow me to interrupt this video briefly to give you the deal of a lifetime.

Ok, now let’s check out some pros of living in Irvine.

Pro #3, Weather

Ok, you got me. I definitely just talked about how Irvine’s weather could be a buzzkill for some people.

However, if you’re the type of person who hates cold weather like yours truly, then Irvine is exactly where you should be.

I mean, where else can you get 300 days of sunshine per year and zero snow? Not to mention that a hot day in this city is around 73 degrees.

It’s almost like the gods made Irvine for people who don’t like extreme temperatures. And for that, they have my endless gratitude.

Pro #2, Safety

If you’re a fan of these blog posts, you’ve probably observed that I talk a lot about the crime rate.

In most of the cities, I cover, the crime rate is a big issue. So I was immediately surprised to discover that Irvine doesn’t have that problem at all.

In fact, it’s so safe that the FBI considers it the safest city in the country for its size.

But I think I’ve discovered the secret as to why Irvine has no crime to speak of…

It’s too boring.

The lack of nightlife, the perfect weather, and the copy-and-paste homes all create an environment that acts as a kryptonite for the criminal-minded.

And for this reason alone, if you have a family and the means to afford it, you should absolutely move to this city.

Still not convinced? Don’t worry, I saved the best for last.

Pro #1, Education

By far the best reason to move to Irvine is its school system.

Because getting an excellent education here is almost guaranteed.

Most of the schools in the Irvine school district have extremely high ratings. And average test scores here are 52% higher than the national average.

But Irvine doesn’t just have some of the best schools in the country, it is also one of the most educated cities in the US.

The amount of people in this city who have bachelor’s degrees is 124% higher than the national average. And around 96% of the students here complete high school.

So if you want the best odds for little Timmy to become a super genius, you know what you have to do.
