Pros and Cons of Moving to Knoxville, TN

Knoxville-TN Written by Marquette Carney

Welcome to Knoxville Tennessee.

Known for its southern cuisine, captivating nature, and die hard sports fans, Knoxville Tennessee is perfect for those wanting to live a more simple life.

But even though this city has a lot of southern charm, there are some things about it that aren’t so charming.

And if you want an accurate view of what it’s really like to call this city home, keep watching while I go over the pros and cons of moving to Knoxville Tennessee.

Con #3, Public transportation

If you don’t have a car and you want to move to this city, I hope you have a major connect at Uber or Lyft.

Because those will pretty much be your only options for getting around.

The public transportation in this city is laughable. Catching a public bus here is harder than finding evidence of big foot.

And for all you people obsessed with green living, just know that Knoxville doesn’t offer any bike lanes. So you’ll literally risk your life if you decide to commute on two wheels.

But if you find this to be frustrating just stop the video now, because this problem pales in comparison to this next con.

Con #2, Scorching summers

This one is for all my peeps relocating from up North.

Because you all may not be aware of how awful that southern heat can be. But if you move to Knoxville, trust me, you’ll quickly find out.

Summers here can make even a cactus ask for air conditioning. And residents of Knoxville have been known to become hermits during the peak summer heat.

So just keep that in mind if heat isn’t really your thing. But the sun won’t be the only reason why staying indoors may be a wise decision. Because this next con is also something you might want to avoid.

Con #1, Crime rate

The crime rate in Knoxville is high enough to raise eyebrows.

The property crime in this city is 50% higher than the national average. Which is alarming considering I’m very anal about people messing with my things.

But there is good news.

The police force claims that they’re cracking down hard on this type of crime. Whatever that means. So if you’re partial to taking the police at their word, then I guess this shouldn’t concern you.

However, what should concern you is just how challenging it is to buy a house.

That’s why the people at homeandmoney.com decided to make buying your dream home easier than ever.

They’ll provide you with your very own personal assistant who will match you to your dream agent, find you the best grants and programs to help you save money, and literally do all the heavy lifting for you

Best of all, their service is 100% free!

Ok, now let’s check out some pros of living in Knoxville.

Pro #3, Affordability

We all know that money is tight these days. Which is why deciding to live in a place with a low cost of living is a great move.

And if you decide to live in Knoxville, you’ll quickly see just how easy it is to make money stretch here.

The cost of living here is 18% lower than the national average. Meaning you don’t have to worry about paying extra for any goods or services.

And the average price of a home in this city is around $324,000.

It doesn’t take a genius to see that living in Knoxville Tennessee is a great deal.

And speaking of genius.

Pro #2, Great schools

One of the best selling points for families is just how good the school system is in Knoxville.

The city as a whole has been giving a B rating for their school system. Which is much higher than any grade I’ve ever received in school.

Knoxville has around 80 public schools and many of them have an extremely high rating. For example, Farragut High School has been ranked the 7th best high school in the entire state.

All of this education will prime your kids to lock down a great job whenever they graduate. And when it comes to jobs, Knoxville has a lot to offer.

Pro #1, Good economy

Many people are moving to the state of Tennessee for one reason…

Its economy is booming.

And Knoxville plays a very important role as to why this is happening. New business filings in the city have reached record highs as of late.

New businesses always translate to more jobs for the public. And to show just how important this is, the unemployment rate of Knoxville is at just 3%.

So whether you’re an entrepreneur or just someone seeking employment, it’s safe to say that Knoxville is the perfect place to be.
